Read how an incredible birthday gift turns into heartbreak in the latest from Insta360 Community Stories, and why you should always be wary of bushes.
It's May 2024, and Laszlo is gifted what any Insta360 fan would want—an Insta360 X4. After finding its way from the U.S. to Europe, Laszlo finally got his hands on the 8K 360º action camera.
After a few trials (and errors), the perfect memory card was secured, and it was time to start creating. At first, it was a hobby, creating videos for local stores, restaurants, and friends.
Safe to say, everyone was happy. As time went on, Laszlo discovered more and more opportunities to film with X4 and started to get braver with his shots. After picking up the Extended Edition Selfie Stick—a whopping 3m long selfie stick that disappears in 360º footage—fake-drone shots were now on the cards. And it was perfect.
A trip to Greece may have resulted in a cracked lens guard, but it was worth it for an epic shot. Eventually, the shots were getting so extreme that it wasn't just the camera that was getting injured, but Laszlo, too—the ever-so-welcoming bushes are to blame for that one! As you can see from his awesome footage, it didn't take long to get to grips with X4:
Greece was swiftly followed by another stop-off in Venice, Italy, which proved to be one of the most incredible places to film with a 360º camera. Coupled with winding canals and striking architecture, X4 meant Laszlo could film the whole world from another angle.
Then, it was onto Bologna, and this is when the story takes a tragic turn. Take it from us: you should never leave your backpack with all your gadgets in the car. In a highly visible public parking spot. In broad daylight.
What went from "a quick detour" turned into heartache, as on returning to the car, Laszlo and his wife noticed that the side window was broken, and their backpacks were missing. His work laptop, portable hard disk, chargers, and precious Insta360 X4... all gone.
Taking it in his stride, he says, "It was a shock, but that's it. We could have been more careful." Laszlo is now trying to recover some of the data, but sadly, some of his great unedited 360º shots will be classified as lost media.
"I hope to get a new camera as I fell in love with it."
We hope so too, Laszlo! While those videos may be lost, it's as good a reason as any to make some more memories.
