Simplify Your Workflow With Insta360 Reframe: The New Adobe Premiere Pro Plugin

In April 2024, Insta360 introduced Insta360 Reframe, an innovative Adobe Premiere Pro plugin that enables users to import and reframe .insv files directly in Premiere Pro. After a series of updates, Insta360 Reframe addresses the challenges in 360º video editing workflows with efficient, time-saving solutions by eliminating the need for stitching and preserving the original quality of footage. With this integration, creators can now leverage 360º cameras like the 8K Insta360 X4 entirely within Premiere Pro, streamlining their workflow like never before.

Streamline Your Workflow

Insta360 Reframe maintains the full original quality of footage by generating a proxy version of the file, eliminating the quality loss that occurs from multiple exports. The lower-resolution (lrv) proxy file can be stitched in-camera in real time for smooth playback and editing, offering some key advantages:

  • The stitching time at the start of a project is greatly reduced.
  • The software performs smoothly during editing without the challenge of displaying an 8K video file.
  • The video is only compressed once during the final export, ensuring maximum image quality. In a traditional workflow, there would be two compressions—one during the initial stitching and one during the final export.
  • Users can cut down the proxy version to the parts necessary for their project. Only the remaining footage is stitched, avoiding wasted time stitching footage that doesn't make the final cut.

Creators can then trim and edit them as they normally would in Premiere Pro.

Shanil from Best360 comments, "It's really easy to adapt to Insta360 Reframe. For users with slower computers, using lrv as proxy files is a time and storage space saver." With Insta360 Reframe, professionals have everything they need to turn their visions into reality, even with high-quality 8K footage, without the constraints of traditional video editing workflows.

An Evolving Partnership

The plugin builds upon Insta360's previous successful collaborations with Adobe. In 2018, Insta360 developed an integration for Adobe Premiere Pro CC video editing software, part of Adobe Creative Cloud. The integration allows users of Insta360's professional cameras, Insta360 Pro 2 and Titan, and action camera ONE R, to complete every part of their 360° video post-production workflow in Premiere Pro. Six years later, the partnership between Adobe and Insta360 takes a significant leap forward in convenience and quality, with Insta360 Reframe promising an even more integrated, accessible and efficient workflow for 360º video creators worldwide.

Advancing Possibilities

This plugin also speeds up social media sharing and opens up a new dimension of visual storytelling. Users can directly import and edit 360º footage in Premiere Pro and upload it to platforms like YouTube and TikTok. For an unmatched immersive experience, users can watch 360º videos on VR headsets like Apple Vision Pro, enabling them to relive every angle in stunning detail.

Insta360 Reframe represents a significant advancement in 360º video production compared to other more cumbersome editing workflows. By providing a straightforward, quality-preserving method of importing and editing 360º footage within Adobe Premiere Pro, Insta360 is leading the charge toward more efficient and time-saving 360º content creation.

Insta360 will be at IBC2024 Amsterdam from Sep 13 to 16—come down to booth 12.F57 and check out the Reframe plugin for yourself!
